Lacoste
While the croc may not be on every pair of Lacoste glasses, the elegant appearance is sufficient to prevail. Jean René Lacoste (1904–1996) was famous for his considerable achievements in two very different arenas. Not only was he once ranked the world's top tennis player, but he designed a novel new tennis shirt that became the cornerstone of a world famous fashion empire. Lacoste, nicknamed "le Crocodile" on the courts, is remembered today primarily for the reptilian logo on his ubiquitous sportswear. Fashion historians believe the crocodile emblem (widely referred to as an alligator) was the first instance of a designer logo to appear on a garment. Progressive Addition Lenses
As we mature our ability to focus on near objects diminishes gradually (presbyopia). Progressives allow a full range of clear vision from distance to intermediate and near without lines or areas of significant distortion. The evolution of progressives has led to multifocal lenses with large, comfortable reading areas as well as wider intermediate channels. Bifocals and Trifocals
Before the introduction of progressives bifocals and trifocals were the traditional answer to the problem of presbyopia. Theses lenses have distinct areas of distance and near/intermediate correction separated by 1 or 2 lines. The near “segments” come in different shapes and sizes depending on your visual needs. Computer (VDT) Lenses
Computer use has become a significant part of most of our lives. Occasionally the location of our computer monitor prohibits the use of standard multifocal lenses or progressives. In these cases special prescription lenses may be prescribed. These computer glasses allow us to more easily view both our monitor at eye level and printed desk top materials as well. Photochromic Lenses
Photochromic lenses change from clear to dark depending on their exposure to UV radiation. They offer a comfortable and convenient alternative to separate sunglasses for people who are in and out of the sunlight; however, they may not be ideal for people who desire dark sunglasses while driving, as windshields block the majority of UV light. Polycarbonate and Trivex Lenses
These lens materials have excellent safety profiles as they are about 10 times more impact resistant than standard plastic lenses and block 100% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. They are the materials of choice for safety glasses, prescription sunglasses and sports eyewear.
High Index and Aspheric Lenses
Modern technology in ophthalmic lenses allows patients with moderate to high eyeglass prescriptions to enjoy thinner, flatter, and more aesthetically pleasing glasses. It doesn’t matter if you have significant amounts of nearsightedness or farsightedness you can still benefit from the qualities of these superior lens materials and designs. Anti-Reflective Coating
This option is an excellent way to finish off a top quality pair of new eyeglasses. Not only will this coating improve vision quality by reducing unwanted glare and reflections but it will also improve the appearance of your glasses by dramatically reducing the reflections that other people see on your lenses. Furthermore, recent advances in anti-reflective coatings also improve the ability of ophthalmic lenses to resist scratches, dust, and moisture.
Sunglasses
In our practice we can advise you of all the details regarding your selection of stylish new sunglasses, like 100% UV protection, the color and darkness of the tint, and whether or not to incorporate polarization. Also, prescription sunglasses may be fabricated for most ophthalmic eyeglass frames. Furthermore, customized sunglass clips are available for virtually every new pair of glasses, which is a nice option if you want to add the benefits of top quality polarized sunglasses to your new spectacle purchase without the added expense of a second pair of glasses. Sports Glasses
While standard dress glasses may be sturdy and durable they may not be ideal for the rigors of aggressive athletic competition. Sports eyewear can provide clear vision while protecting the eyes from flying elbows, fingers, and sports balls. Prescription lenses can also be incorporated into goggles for winter sports and swimming.
Safety Glasses
In addition to athletic competition certain working environments may indicate the use of safety glasses. Carpenters, plumbers, machinists, and laborers are among those who often require safety eyewear. High speed particles of wood, metal and dirt can cause serious injuries to unprotected eyes. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) within the U.S. Department of Labor oversees safety practices in the workplace and educational settings and has adopted safety eyewear standards established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), thus creating quality and safety standards for safety glasses (prescription and non-prescription), goggles, face shields, welding helmets, and other eye protection devices.
